When motivation is hiding behind the curtains or under the rug, you can utilize these tips to help you get up, get moving, and hit your goals.
If you are ready for a change for the better, I’m ready to help you get started!
Before we begin,
I would like you to get a notebook and a pen.
This notebook will be your fitness notebook, and it will be your best friend while you embark on your weight loss journey.
Choose a fancy notebook, or just use a typical composition notebook.
It doesn’t matter.
"What does matter is that you write down your goals, your successes, your failures, and more?"
When you write things down, you are more likely to stick to your goals, create healthy habits, and be able to see your successes in the future.
Keep this notebook in a place where you will be able to see it every day, and don’t forget to use it on a regular basis.
It will be your lifeline as you start on your weight loss journey.
How To Start Losing Weight (4 Easy Tips)
Tip #1. Find Your 3 Layers Of "Why"
The first tip that I have for you is...
What I like to call three layers of “why.”
With these three layers, you are creating your purpose on your weight loss journey.
The beginning of finding your three layers of “why” is pretty simple to do.
It all starts with one single question for you to ask yourself. You should ask,
“Why do I want to lose weight?”
And then you should ask it again. Ask it another time, until you have asked yourself and answered your “why” three different times.
The reason you asked yourself three different times is...
That you begin to peel back those layers of your answer until you’ve found your goals.
It has been proven time and again that when you find a deeper connection with your goals, you are more likely to reach for them.
Losing weight is no different. This emotional connection is ideal for getting the job done without getting bored or losing confidence in your goal.
A great tip for your three layer answer is to write down the question (why do I want to lose weight?) Three different times on a sheet of paper.
The best place for the questions is to put them where you can see them on a regular basis.
After you’ve written down the questions, answer them, on that same paper.
When you write down your goals, you are only increasing that emotional connection that keeps you going long after you want to quit.
Tip #2. Switching To Performance Goals Over Weight Loss Goals
Performance-based goals are extremely helpful when you are trying to lose weight or reach a difficult goal.
Start with an easy goal that you know you can achieve quickly.
When you first start your weight loss journey, you are going to be fired up and ready to roll...
Which means that first goal is going to be a big accomplishment.
If you make your goal difficult, you are going to get discouraged too quickly into your journey when you don’t hit it.
Instead...
Pick an easy goal.
Once you hit that goal, create another goal just a step up that you know you can reach quickly.
This switching of goals during your journey helps keep you fresh and alert.
You are less likely to get bored because you are hitting goals on a regular basis.
You might not even realize it, but you will be working out, eating better, and hitting your weight loss goals easier than you ever imagined.
When you are switching up goals, you are also keeping yourself motivated.
Instead of creating one huge, difficult to obtain a goal, create performance-based goals that are unique to you and your journey.
If you want a little extra to reach your goal, you can give yourself mini gifts for reaching your performance goals successfully.
For instance, when you lose your first 10 pounds, you could gift yourself by getting a new book, buying a new pair of sneakers, or buying a new outfit.
Whatever feels like a great gift to you, is a great option to keep you on track to that next goal.
Again, writing down your goals is effective in helping you stay focused on the goal as well.
Tip #3. Create Healthy Habits
Another tip that can help you during your weight loss journey is by creating healthy habits.
If you are just doing things because you think you are supposed to, you are going to be less likely to stick to them.
Habits are things that are under your control, so instead of drinking soda because it’s a habit, create a healthy habit of drinking water.
You can keep control of what you eat, what you drink, and how you workout.
"Habits are what you CAN control. Weight loss will happen on its own. Habits are the momentum you need for forward progress to your weight loss goals."
It can be difficult to create healthy habits, but a little hard work and determination, in the beginning, is a good way to get started.
If you tend to drink a glass of soda in the morning, make it a point to drink water instead.
Before long...
You will crave water when you wake up, and you have just created a healthy habit in your life.
These habits will begin to build into other healthy habits, which eventually lead to success and the reaching of your goals.
Just like with finding your “why” for your weight loss goal,
...you should also take a sheet of paper and commit yourself to changing up a habit from an unhealthy one to a healthy one.
Writing things down has been an effective means of motivation for many, which is why it is so great for helping you create healthy habits.
Each day with you complete that healthy habit successfully; you can put a checkmark beside the day to keep track of your best days and worst days.
This is also great for helping you decide which habits you are struggling with and which ones were easy to create in your life.
Tip #4. Try New Things
Boredom is a real issue...
...when considering weight loss and the journey that it involves.
When you, or anyone for that matter, does the same routine day after day, it gets boring.
This can mean anything from your work to your hobbies to your workouts to the food you consume on a daily basis.
One way to stay motivated while you are on your weight loss journey is to try new things.
Luckily, this tip is open-ended.
You can try new things that are in your comfort zone, or you can get out of your comfort zone to try stuff you would’ve never imagined.
This can also include your food or your workouts for your weight loss journey.
Trying new things is going to be vastly different for everyone, but it is effective for everyone no matter who you are.
When you constantly switch up your routine, you are creating something new and fresh for yourself every day.
It is proven that when you switch things up and try new things, you are less likely to get bored.
That's why I recommend hiit workouts at home because it keeps your routine from getting stale.
If you lift weights, try doing new workouts every few days to keep things fresh.
Add a little yoga to your routine, or even go for a walk in the afternoon for your cardio.
If you do specialized workouts, try something new there as well.
Breaking up the monotony is always great for preventing that mid-journey boredom and slump.
Trying new things is great not only in your workouts but with your diet as well.
If you are always eating the same foods while trying to eat a healthier diet, you are going to get bored quickly.
Instead, try adding a few new things to your meals and snacks.
If you are a picky eater, you can even go so far as to prepare your favorites in new and exciting ways.
For example,
If you love sweet potatoes,
...try baking them like fries or slices.
Add some olive oil and create a new dish that you’ve never had before.
Sometimes, just creating new items with your favorite foods is enough to keep you from making unhealthy food choices.
Tip #5. Create A Support System For Encouragement And Accountability
One of the...
Biggest,
Best,
and Easiest ways,
...to stay motivated while on your weight loss journey is by finding or creating your support system.
In fact, if you have no support system, you are more likely to swirl back into your bad habits and forget about your important goal.
It has been known to be exceedingly more difficult to lose weight when you have to double as your support system.
It is hard to stay motivated when you have to be your source of motivation.
Having a support system is important for many reasons.
Your support system is going to be excited with you when you reach an important goal on your productivity goals.
When you lose five pounds or start seeing results in your muscles, your support system will be there to help you celebrate your progress.
A good support system will also encourage you when you are down or bored.
They are going to hold you accountable for the days you cheat a little on your diet or skip a workout.
The best part of your support system is the fact that it can be anyone you want it to be.
Family members, friends, or others who are on the journey with you are perfect people for a support system.
Weight loss journeys are not easy journeys to take, which is why a support system can make or break your progress.
"The only thing to remember when choosing your support system is to find someone who is going to be strict when they need to be and encouraging when you need them to be.
Losing weight is not an easy journey to embark on.
There are ups and downs during the weight loss journey that can make it difficult to keep on the track to reach your goals.
Millions of people out there have experienced or is currently experiencing the difficulties that come with losing weight.
With the few tips mentioned above, you can effectively stay on track, and lose the weight you want.
Reaching your goals is always easier when you keep your goals productivity oriented and when you have a support system to keep you going.
Losing weight is not easy, but it can be an exciting journey if you use the right tips and the right mindset to keep your eyes on the prize.
